Baptisms at St. John's Cathedral

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body in the Church.  The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble.    The Book of Common Prayer page 298

Baptisms at St. John's generally are conducted on All Saints' Day, the Baptism of our Lord, Easter Vigil and the Day of Pentecost.  The next scheduled date for Holy Baptism is November 1, 2009 during the 10:30 am service.  Cathedral members interested in having a baptism at St. John's Cathedral may call Debbie Hodsdon in the Cathedral office at 632-9104, ext. 11 by October 15.

 Confirmations at St. John's Cathedral

In the course of their Christian development, those baptized are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.  -The Book of Common Prayer page 412

Confirmations, receptions and reaffirmations at St. John's are conducted on Pentecost during the 10:30 am service.  Adults seeking confirmation must attend the Inquirers' Weekend in the spring. Youth seeking confirmation must attend confirmation classes beginning in January 2010. For more information on confirmation contact Debbie Hodsdon in the Cathedral office at 632-9104, ext. 11.

Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in the presence of God.

 Funerals at St. John's Cathedral

The liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we, too, shall be raised.
