DAUGHTERS OF THE KING (DOK)
Daughters of the King (DOK) is an Order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church or churches in communion with it. Members undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service. By reaffirmation of the promises made at Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and evangelism – dedicated to the spreading of Christ's Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish. New members attend a 10-week discernment study group followed by three to six months of participation in activities before taking their vows. Membership in the Order is a lifelong commitment. The members of St. John's Cathedral DOK meet as a group on the third Saturday of each month from September through June in Ingram Lounge from 10-11:30 a.m. There is also a DOK chapter (Grace) at the Cathedral Residences. This chapter meets in the library at the Cathedral Townhouse on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 5:00 p.m.

FOYER GROUPS

Foyers are groups of about eight St. John's Cathedral (SJC) members who join together in member's homes for a simple meal and conversation. During World War II, the Foyer movement began in Coventry, England, where Germans had destroyed the city's cathedral that dated from the 14th century. Some of the old nails that fell among the ruins were twisted together to make a cross, and this cross of nails and the words, "Father Forgive" became the symbol of the International Ministry of Reconciliation.  In 1967, the staff of the Coventry Cathedral began meeting together in small groups "to bridge the divisions which subtly separate us one from another."  The movement has spread ever since.  Foyer groups are not intended to do anything but simply to be what Christians are - groups of people who love one another. Foyers enable us to make new friends and grow old relationships by simply sharing a meal.

KITCHEN HOSPITALITY

This group provides refreshments for Coffee Hour after the 10:30 a.m. service, as well as refreshments for special events, such as "kicked up" coffee hours, Diocesan receptions, ordinations, etc. They also plan, shop and prepare supper for Wednesday evening programs.
