Enjoy 'Breakfast with C.S. Lewis' each Sunday
From now until Aug. 22, our traditional Sunday breakfasts at the Cathedral will feature a bit of spiritual nourishment as we read and discuss excerpts from the writings of acclaimed Anglican writer C.S. Lewis. Breakfast buffets will be prepared each week by different ministry groups, and served in Taliaferro Hall beginning at 9 a.m. Handouts of shorts essays by Lewis will be available, and casual small-group discussion at each table will start at 9:30 am. We'll discuss readings from the book "C.S. Lewis, Readings for Meditation and Reflection." Copies of the book are for sale in the Cathedral Bookshop in Taliaferro Hall or can be ordered at www.amazon.com.
‘Basic A’ & a new book group meeting Wednesday nights this summer
Dean Kate Moorehead is leading a session of Basic Anglicanism (Basic A) this summer, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend this class to learn more about the history, theology and richness of our Anglican tradition.
Dean Moorehead is also leading a book group during the summer, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Participants are reading “Pillars of the Earth,” by Ken Follett. This wonderful historical novel tells the story of a 12th-century prior, his master builder and their community as they struggle to build a cathedral during the 12th century. Copies will be available in the bookshop in Taliaferro Hall.
Education for Ministry program empowers lay leaders
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a worldwide program developed by the School of Theology of The University of the South (Sewanee). It holds that the foundation for bringing Christ to the world lies in a church empowered by an active, theologically articulate laity. Thousands of people have completed this four-year program. Students enroll one year at a time, can transfer almost anywhere in the United States and in many foreign countries, and can earn 18 continuing education units per year by participating. Classes are offered each year at the Cathedral, beginning in the fall. For more information, including a prospectus or brochure, contact Laura O'Shields at 904- 399-5916.
