CENTER FOR PRAYER AND SPIRITUALITY (CPS)

As a place and ministry for the people of St. John's Cathedral, the Diocese of Florida, the city of Jacksonville and all pilgrims on the way, the Center for Prayer and Spirituality (CPS) offers prayer, study and companioning to deepen the spiritual dimensions of our lives. Through personal and experienced knowledge of God, ministers of silence feed the spiritual body of our church.  CPS sponsors the following activities:

  • Quiet Sunday Mornings - A gathering for beginners and those familiar with the ancient Christian prayer forms of contemplative prayer and Christian mediation, time for silent prayer followed by conversation is provided. These gatherings are every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in The Chapel of the Transfiguration, Room 310, Cathedral House.
  • Quiet Garden Days - Offering opportunities for prayer, reflection and silence, these gatherings are one Saturday a month, October through April, 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the Cathedral's Holy Communion Chapel.  Participants may engage in a labyrinth walk and enjoy a peaceful time in one of the Cathedral's garden spaces that are registered with the international Quiet Garden Trust.
  • Contemplative Service - On Fridays at 12:10 pm, a contemplative service steeped in silence incorporated into a brief liturgy of the Word is offered. It can provide a special time of quiet for the downtown workforce as well as those who frequent the 12:10 services.
  • Fourth Friday Spiritual Companioning - On Fourth Fridays from 1:00 - 2:00 pm following the 12:10 Contemplative Eucharist, the Center for Prayer & Spirituality is offering group Spiritual Companioning in the third floor Chapel of the Transfiguration.
